Eyelid Correction in Orange County

Excess fat or skin around your upper eyelid can make you appear tired or older than you are, and can also obstruct your vision. At Pacific Coast Facial Plastic Surgery in Laguna Niguel, Dr. Boeckmann performs upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty) to give the eyes a rested, more youthful appearance, and to improve vision impairment from hanging loose skin of the upper eyelids.

An incision is made within the natural crease of the eyelid which allows for removal of excess skin, muscle, and or fat deposits. The placement of the incisions in the natural crease of the eyelids ensures that surgical scars are fully concealed within the natural structure of the eyelid area. The incisions are closed with sutures which are removed within one week. Results are evident as minor swelling and bruising subside leaving the eyelid and surrounding area brighter, more alert, and rejuvenated in appearance.

What are the Benefits of Upper Eyelid Correction Surgery?

Upper eyelid surgery in Orange County is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today. Candidates for this procedure are men who want to correct a tired appearance or impaired peripheral vision caused by droopy upper eyelids with hanging, excess skin. The benefits of upper eyelid surgery include:

  • Outpatient Procedure
  • No general anesthesia
  • Corrects hooding of the upper eyelids
  • Removes excess, drooping skin
  • Restores vision impaired by excess skin or fat on the upper eyelids
  • Restores a revitalized, more youthful appearance to the face and eyes
  • Minimal downtime

What is the Recovery following Upper Eyelid Correction Surgery?

Most patients report some eye dryness, tearing, as well as mild bruising and swelling initially following surgery. These symptoms will gradually subside in the weeks following your surgery. Elevating the head above the heart and frequent application of cool compresses for the first 72 hours  helps to speed the healing process. Patients are also encouraged to take the herbal supplement Arnica Montana and/or Bromelain to help minimize bruising and swelling.

Most patients take 7-10 days off from work after eyelid surgery and are able to wear contact lenses again after about 10-14 days. You should be able to exercise within 3 weeks.

There is very little pain following the procedure, but you will be prescribed pain medication to help you stay comfortable.

Upper eyelid incisions placed along the natural eyelid crease usually only result in a very fine line that cannot be seen by others.

Who is a Candidate for Upper Eyelid Correction Surgery?

Dr. Boeckmann determines candidacy for all of his patients on an individual basis, after carefully evaluating the cosmetic issues and signs of aging that concern them most. Candidates for blepharoplasty are concerned about the tired appearance they project even when they are fully engaged and energetic. They may also have impaired peripheral vision caused by excess skin blocking the full radius view that normally would be available. This can interfere with reading, driving and other activities.

The only way to know for sure if you are an ideal candidate is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Boeckmann in our Laguna Niguel facial plastic surgery clinic. During that appointment, he will walk you through the procedure and help you determine if it is in your best interest.
